Twelve conceded in two. Bromley lost 0–5 at home to Leyton Orient, four days after shipping seven at Hillsborough. The promoted side's first two defeats in the division have cost them twelve goals and produced two, and whatever question they had about the third tier has now been answered at length, twice, by two different sides.

Leicester score a goal. 2–0 against Plymouth, which after the goalless non-event at MK Dons counts as an event. Their first outing at this level in a generation produced no goals and no rhythm; their second produced both. Nothing about beating Plymouth at home proves anything, but a squad that expensive needed to stop looking confused more than it needed to look good.

Both ends of five. Mansfield put five past Luton at the weekend and conceded five at Reading on Wednesday, which is either a fluke of scheduling or the most honest self-assessment in the division. Luton, for their part, answered a 2–5 by beating Stockport 2–0 — the same Stockport who had put five past Wycombe three days earlier. Everyone in this division is currently capable of everything.

The quiet ones. Doncaster 1–1 Notts County and Peterborough 0–0 Stevenage were the only two matches not to produce a winner, out of twelve. Thirty-eight goals across the round, after forty-three in eleven the week before. Four games in, League One is averaging over three a match and shows no sign of remembering that it is supposed to tighten up.

No coupon fixtures fell in this matchweek, so there is nothing on the record to be right or wrong about. Which is a shame, because a division scoring at this rate is the one place a forecast might actually learn something.
