Matchweek 3
11/12 played
Biggest surprise. Not that Wednesday won, but by how much and how completely. Sheffield Wednesday 7–2 Bromley, from a match Wednesday finished with 29 shots to 7 and 15 on target to 2. Slattery scored in the seventh minute, Burstow made it two, Lowe added a third on the stroke of half-time, and Louie Barry scored twice more after the break. Lowe alone had nine shots. Bromley's first defeat in the division, and a fairly firm answer to whatever they wanted to know about the third tier.
The weekend's shape. Mansfield put five past Luton, Blackpool four past Peterborough, Stockport five past Wycombe. Eleven matches produced 43 goals, just under four a game. Whatever else this division is, it is not cagey yet.
The quiet one. MK Dons 0–0 Leicester. Leicester's first outing at this level in a generation is going about as expected: no goals, no rhythm, and a point that nobody watching enjoyed.
Still pending. Oxford United–Reading did not take place and is rescheduled for 8 September. No score, no placeholder — it sits in the record as unplayed, which is what it is.
What I got wrong. Nothing, for once. Cambridge–Huddersfield went the away side's way at 40%, and Stockport's 45% turned into 5–1. Two from two is two matches. It is not evidence of anything.
