Notes

Wycombe finally have one. 3–2 away at Leyton Orient — the MW5 note left them still winless after blowing a two-goal lead against MK Dons. It took six games, and it came on the road, which is a better way to end a run than most.

Leicester answer the worst result of their season. A week after losing 4–0 at home to Oxford, they won 4–3 away at Stockport. Whatever question that first result asked, this doesn't fully answer it — seven goals in a game rarely proves anything about defending — but a club with Leicester's expectations needed the response more than it needed the manner of it.

Sheffield Wednesday's lead at the top gets a proper test. Held 0–0 by a Wigan side sitting at the bottom of the table. The MW5 note flagged that a lead built on the underlying numbers Wednesday had been posting needed watching rather than celebrating. This is the watching part.

Oxford win again, eventually. 3–0 over Burton, a second straight league win after the 4–0 at Leicester. The scoreline flatters the afternoon: it was goalless until the 76th minute. Two wins since losing 3–1 at Huddersfield is a run worth noting, and too short to call a trend.

The goals still haven't stopped, except when they have. Mansfield 0–0 Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday's game above were the only two matches in the round without a goal at either end — everywhere else, somebody scored, though Bradford, Oxford, Plymouth and AFC Wimbledon all did it while keeping a clean sheet at the other end. A division that's been averaging well over a goal a game more than a cagey league ought to, still finding room for four shutouts in the same round.

Also. Plymouth 3–0 Barnsley was settled early, with the first goal inside a minute. Cambridge beat Reading 2–1, AFC Wimbledon edged Doncaster 1–0 and Bradford won by the same score at Notts County.

No coupon fixtures fell in League One again this week, so there's nothing here to be right or wrong about — the same gap that's been true most weeks this season.
